Ittel Information and Discussion
Guiding Principles for this site:
The Guiding Principles for the Ittel.org website are presented and are open for discussion. I do not yet understand how to attach a conversation page, so for the time being questions and answers will have to pass through me.
The way Ittels should eat:
If the Ittels of the world should gather in Europe, then we should eat at the family restaurant, Auberge de L'Ill, Alsace. I have included details. I understand that we also had a family vineyard in Germany, but that it recently passed out of the family. I would appreciate it if anyone could provide the name of the chateau, because the grapes are still the same and I would like to enjoy them.
Maps:
An aerial map of Ittel, Germany is included for historical purposes. It is clearly a small town surrounded by farmland. An aerial map of Großkarlbach, Germany is also included. Most of the Ittels in the United States came from or have links to Großkarlbach. These maps are interactive and may be changed from maps to photographs or a hybrid of both.
Ittel Family Bible:
Family bibles have always been a good source of genealogical information. An important Ittel Family Bible has gone missing and we are trying to track it down. There was a particular Ittel Family Bible containing much family information and known to be in Germany (Pfeddersheim) in 1920. An Ittel, who already lived in the US, is thought to have visited Germany in about 1926 and to have taken that Bible back to the US with him. We would love to locate that Bible and get copies of the early records that are in handwritten in German (possibly with some French thrown in). Of course, there could be several of old German or French Ittel Bibles now in the US and information recorded in all of them would be of interest. Please contact me if you happen to have information on any of these treasures and are willing to share.
Apparently, inventiveness has been a characteristic of Ittels. There have been a number of Ittels with issued or pending US, French or German patents. Those of Steve Ittel may be viewed elsewhere. The rest are given below.
