Origins of the Ittels:
A discussion of the Origins of the Ittel Name in Germany by Klaus-Jürgen Laun is given in German and I have provided a translation to run side by side with it. A French translation and any up-grades to my English translation would be appreciated. .
The Ittel Family Tree:
The Ittel family tree that is attached comprises almost all of the Ittels of whom I am aware. It may be accessed through the Index or through the list of Surnames. The number of individuals in the master file from which this searchable file derived is 2482, with a total of 842 marriages. The earliest birth year is about 1500. There are 18 generations and 634 different surnames. More importantly, all of those people are descended from 17 identified Ittels. The oldest is Jörg Ittel who is pictured on the home page of this site. Hans Adam Ittel heads up another major tree, which happens to be the one on which I appear. George Ittel heads up the third major tree. All of the others begin in the United States and I believe them to be derived from the three European trees. It is hoped that having them online will lead to important connections and consolidation of the Ittel genealogy. I have not included a handful of Ittels who appear in US census and immigration records for whom I have no connections.
There are many people I have to thank for helping compile all of this information. I am responsible for much of the Ittel genealogy from the United States, but inputs from Frankie Ittel and William Ittel have been important. The German genealogy has been done by primarily by Klaus-Jürgen Laun. The French genealogy has been done by Michel Ittel. Their contributions have been enormous. They will have web pages on this site in the near future, should they so choose.
The Ancestors of Alexandra Carter Lundgren
Having stated that this site was to be Ittel-centric, the other major genealogical effort to be made available is the Ancestors of Alexandra Carter Lundgren, my first, and thus far only grandchild. It is not available in the standard genealogical format. Rather, it is the first draft of a well indexed book in the PDF format. The Ittel line is a small portion of the book, but you can see how she is related to Presidents of the United States, Kings of England and France, opposing Civil War generals, passengers of the Mayflower (Yes, she can be a member of the Mayflower Society), Revolutionary War heroes and a Russian Saint.
